Why HOP Box doesn’t contain resveratrol
Share
As many of you know, we're constantly evaluating the latest scientific evidence to ensure our HOP Box formulation represents the cutting edge of longevity science. Today, we want to share some recent findings that validate one of our key formulation decisions from two years ago.
The resveratrol story: why we said "not yet"
When we were developing the HOP Box longevity formulation, resveratrol was generating significant buzz in the longevity community. Dr. David Sinclair and others couldn’t stop talking about this apparently magical compound, found naturally in red wine and some berries. However, after careful review of the available evidence, we made the decision to exclude it from our formulation.
New research validates our approach
A recent systematic review and meta-analysis published in Obesity Pillars (Dec 2024) has reinforced the wisdom of that decision. The study, which analyzed data from multiple randomized, placebo-controlled trials, found that resveratrol supplementation offered no significant benefits across several key metabolic health parameters:
- No improvement in triglyceride or cholesterol levels
- No positive impact on HbA1c or insulin levels
- No beneficial effects on liver enzymes
- No reduction in BMI
Perhaps most telling is that these null findings were highly consistent across all included studies, adding to the reliability of these conclusions.
The science behind our decision
Our initial skepticism about resveratrol stemmed from several key factors that this meta-analysis helps illuminate:
- Poor bioavailability (less than 1% of oral resveratrol remains effectively bioavailable)
- Questions about its proposed mechanism of action through sirtuin activation
- Inconsistent results in longevity studies (including some flat-out flawed studies!)
Looking forward
At HOP, we pride ourselves on being ahead of the curve when evaluating scientific evidence. While jumping on every promising compound that generates headlines can be tempting, our commitment to evidence-based formulation sometimes means saying "no" to trending ingredients until they prove their worth through rigorous scientific study.
This latest research reinforces our approach: we'll continue to evaluate promising compounds but only include those that meet our strict criteria for scientific validation. It's why you can trust that every ingredient in your HOP Box has earned its place through evidence, not hype.
Thank you for your continued trust in our commitment to science-based longevity medicine.
